The view as we leave town. There are posted National Guard all over the town. I am so thankful they have been here to help make dikes, fill sandbags, and keep order.

This is the view of the last bridge through town. They have had to put two rows of fillable bladders down the side to help hold the water back.

The river is forecasted to crest in the next few days. There is now only one bridge left open to get from the north to south side of town. They are telling people to be prepared to wait hours to get across and just stay home if you can.

Our days seemed filled with new road closures, places to volunteer to fill sand bags, lists of things you need to get out of your houses if you are in the flood zone, updated flood maps, and so much more. We are safe and are lucky we are nowhere near to all the trouble and danger.

I spent last night out shooting an engagement shoot for a wonderful couple. As we left the shoot the sky was getting so dramatic. Of course then the sun broke through the clouds and we had the most beautiful purple and orange sunset that I missed because I was driving on the interstate. I really need to just pull over when the sky gets that look and just shoot!

I have been getting out to scout for new locations to shoot, but so many of them are still underwater. It isn’t good either than rain is in the forecast almost every other day for the next week and a half.

Today was Kati’s birthday party. She had a handful of girls over for a slumber party, games, pizza, and ice cream cake.

Tonight was the annual Daddy/Daughter dance on base. They have a dinner, pictures, corsages, balloons, and or course-dancing. Kati wanted to go all out (of course) and got an entirely new outfit. She is wearing the choker that I wore to Prom with her dad over 17 years ago. Yikes.

Scary as it may seem, Trent now has his learner’s permit. He was so excited to finally get it. We actually went to get it last week but the DMV was in the mandatory evacuation zone and we had to wait until they were allowed back in.

This is of one of the main intersections in Minot. They have the National Guard running traffic and securing the mandatory evacuation zones. We counted 17 trucks in the line to bring dirt to the areas that are being built up with newer levees.
